The World's Top 10 Highest-Paid Footballers 2019

Forbes recently announced their list of highest paid athletes but no one cares about any other sports besides football so for your convenience here is the top 10 list for footballers only:

10. Antoine Griezmann - $27.7 million.

Griezmann is one of the top players in La Liga and he won the 2018 World Cup with the French national team so he's had a great last 12 months. Expect his earnings to go even higher next year now that he's signed with Barcelona.

9. Oscar - $29 million.

Remember him? Yup, Oscar is still alive and clearly doing very well in China where he earns more money than even his former teammate Hazard earned at Chelsea. No wonder these players (and managers) keep running off to China...

8. Mesut Ozil - $30.2 million.

Arsene Wenger's parting gift to Arsenal was a bumper contract extension to Mesut Ozil and boy oh boy does it keep looking worse with every Ozil sleepwalking non-performance! No one else will pay Ozil anywhere near what he's earning at Arsenal so unless he takes it upon himself to take a pay cut somewhere else this contract will continue to be an albatross around The Gunners' wage bill.

7. Kylian Mbappe - $30.6 million.

Mbappe is still only 20 years and he's by far the youngest player on this list and if he continues at this current career trajectory he will easily be making $100 million+ a year in the next few years. Until then he'll have to console himself with *only* $30 million a year. Sad!

6. Alexis Sanchez - $30.8 million.

One of the highest paid players in the Premier League... is most definitely not one of the best players in the Premier League. Matter of fact he's not even one of the best players on his team and that team finished 6th which tells you all you need to know about the worst value for money player contract in the Premier League.

5. Andres Iniesta - $32.5 million.

One of my personal favourite players of all time is still going strong at the ripe old age of 35 and his earning power is even stronger than ever. Talk about being big in Japan!

4. Paul Pogba - $33 million.

The highest paid player in the Premier League... is most definitely not the best player in the Premier League. Matter of fact he's not even the best player on his team and that team finished 6th which... which means Manchester United are probably paying him too much.

3. Neymar - $105 million.

Honestly, the gap between the top 3 players and everyone else is just all kinds of insane. I mean, is Neymar really worth 3 Kylian Mbappe's? Add to that his recent injury issues and you start to see why PSG are willing to sell him.

2. Cristiano Ronaldo - $109 million.

Ronaldo has consistently been in the top 1 or 2 best players list in the world for more than a decade now and while he's starting to show signs of slowing down at the age of 33 he's still as clinical and as marketable as ever. This man is such a force of nature that you can easily see him playing at the top level all the way till at least the next World Cup in 2022.

1. Lionel Messi - $127 million.

Best player in the world. Highest paid player in the world. Highest paid athlete in any sport.

The G.O.A.T.

Which player that isn't on this list do you think deserves to be in the top 10? Who do you think shouldn't be on this list? Comment below with your opinion.
